Plastic in Our Oceans

Our oceans make up 71% of our planet. They are filled with beautiful fish, coral reefs, and other sea creatures. Most of the plastic we use every day ends up in these magnificent oceans. Sea turtles are mistaking plastic bags for jellyfish, and when they eat the plastic bags they die. Whales are being found dead on the shore with plastic in their stomachs. And birds are also suffering from the plastic in our oceans. They have so many small pieces of plastic in their stomachs that they can't eat any more food, and they end up dying. These beautiful creatures are dying from plastic and they are crucial to the food chain. EVERY living thing is crucial to the food chain. A lot of fish have microplastics in them, and since some of us eat fish, we are digesting microplastics as well. We need to make a real effort to pick up trash from the ocean. Clean oceans are better for everyone.

Coral Bleaching

Coral bleaching is another big issue. When coral is bleached it loses its color. Coral becomes more vulnerable and will most likely die if it is bleached. Coral reefs all over the world are bleaching because of the rapidly warming ocean which is due to climate change. Coral reefs are extremely important to all animals living in the ocean and us. Coral reefs provide a home for many sea creatures, and coastlines are protected from storms and erosion by coral reefs. We need to protect the remaining coral reefs so that we can make sure that they stay healthy.
