If you're looking to be a bit more eco-friendly, here are a few things you can do that are really easy and simple.
1: Use a reusable water bottle
You can bring your favorite reusable water bottle wherever you go and fill it up whenever you need water. This eliminates waste from plastic water bottles and it saves money in the long run.
2: Use a reusable bag when you go to the grocery store
Using reusable bags is really good for the environment because it avoids the unnecessary use and waste of plastic bags. Reusable bags often fit more food as well, so you won't have to carry many bags when you go grocery shopping.
3: Bring a reusable bag when you go shopping
You can also use reusable bags when you go shopping because it'll reduce a large amount of waste. You don't necessarily have to use a grocery bag when you go shopping because any type of reusable bag works.
4: Pick up one piece of trash every day
If you see a piece of trash on the streets or on the beach it would be very helpful to the environment to pick it up and throw it away. Trash can be very harmful to animals, and throwing it away before it gets to the water prevents harm from getting to the marine animals. Picking up one piece of trash every day is a great habit to start.
5: Go biking or walking once a week
If you need to get somewhere, biking could be a great form of transportation, especially if your destination isn't too far. Biking reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere, and it's a great workout. Walking is also a way you can get somewhere close.
6: Use a reusable produce bag
Using reusable grocery bags reduces plastic waste in the grocery store, but there are still plastic produce bags. Fortunately, you can buy reusable produce bags and bring them to the grocery store to fill with fruits and vegetables. If you bring both your reusable grocery and produce bags then you'll really be avoiding waste in the grocery store.
7: Buy in bulk once a week
If you can, bring some jars and reusable containers to the grocery store and fill them with seeds, nuts, or any type of dry goods. Using jars and reusable containers reduces the amount of plastic packaging you have to throw away.
8: Eat one vegetarian meal a week
Eating less meat and making your meals more plant-based is a great way to be more eco-friendly. The production of meat requires a lot of water and it emits a large amount of greenhouse gases. Eating a vegetarian meal at least once a week will definitely reduce your carbon footprint.
9: Eat local
If you live near a farmers' market, I definitely recommend buying your fruit and vegetables there because not only are they delicious, but they're also good for the environment. Fruits and vegetables that are grown locally spend less time in transit which means less carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere.
10: Take shorter showers
Taking 5-10 minute showers is much better for the environment than 20+ minute showers because it reduces the amount of water wasted. Taking shorter showers will save a lot of water, and if you slowly work towards the goal of taking 5-minute showers, you'll be saving a bunch of water and energy. Saving energy also reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
